Kobressi Boutros
Cyprus, 1664-Acre (Palestine), 1744
Boutros Kobressi was a monk from the Lebanese Maronite order who took his vows at the convent of Kozhaya in Lebanon on 31st December 1711.
In 1703, the patriarch Estephan Douaihy asked him to embellish the frescoes at the patriarchal church of Kannoubine. There he painted the Virgin crowned by the Trinity, with Maronite patriarchs at her feet – including Douaihy – on the north wall of the church. He worked there until 1705.
Kobressi was active between 1703 and 1732, and partnered with Father Ibrahim Kerbage on a number of biblical scenes for the Maronite churches of Aleppo. He also taught Moussa Dib. He died in Saint John d’Acre in 1744.
